When one of the biggest movie theater chains from the MENA region reached out to us, they were on the verge of going bankrupt. Their main rival was poaching customers, and therefore revenue, through their successful advertisement campaigns. The outlook was grim: the rival’s movie theaters enjoyed a full house every night, while our client was marching towards inevitable bankruptcy. Or so it was going to be until they met us... Our client needed sales data on their rival if they were to reform their business strategy. We knew we could provide what they needed so we accepted their call for help.
We created a product that logs into their rival’s booking system as a standard user. It then looks at a seat selection page and data is gathered on the occupancy rates for the selected session. After scaling our product up, we were able to retrieve all the occupancy rates per city, per movie theater, and movie. All of this information was combined to form the sales data of our client’s rival.
With epctex’s fully-managed service, our customers had access to all the sales data of their rivals and could now better target customers by understanding their preferences. Not only did this data critically inform our client’s campaign and advertisement targeting, they could also analyze and prepare for future movie screenings. The solution we came up with was complex: it consisted of passing Two-factor Authentication, bypassing Protection Software, Single sign-on technologies, and authentication. At epctex, we created a product that logged into the rival’s booking system as a standard user as if to buy a ticket for a movie. The system showed us a seat selection page from which we were able to retrieve all the occupancy rates for the selected session. After scaling up this process, we were able to see all occupancy rates per city, per theater, and movie. Combined as one package, this gave us the total sales data of the rival to give to our client.
